Establishing the foundation of design to build a user-centered culture
Summary
During Helix's transition into healthcare, I built and scaled our design and research function from the ground up. I established user-centered design processes, recruited top talent, and created cross-functional partnerships that shifted the company culture toward user-centricity. My team designed experiences across the entire product ecosystem—from patient-facing apps to laboratory workflows—directly supporting our mission to integrate genomics into clinical care.

Streamlining clinical research consent to improve patient access
Summary
When our clinical research consent flow launched with high drop-off rates, I led a comprehensive redesign to remove friction and simplify complex legal concepts. Through user research and iterative testing, I transformed the consent experience to improve both conversion and patient understanding.

Increase in consent conversion rate from 62% to 74% (12-point increase)

Automating cohort identification to scale life sciences partnerships
Summary
As Helix's genetic dataset grew to over 450K patients, I led the design of our first automated cohort identification tool. I transformed a completely manual process into a self-service data explorer, enabling our internal teams to identify patient cohorts faster while scaling our life sciences partnerships.

Understanding admin workflows to eliminate operational bottlenecks
Summary
Following the successful consumer application intake redesign, our team turned to address the long-standing issues with the administrative portal. I led comprehensive design research with admin users at Covered California and DHCS who support troubleshooting and coverage access for Californians. This research established the foundation for redesigning the interface that hadn't been touched in years.
